What makes onyx different from marble

Onyx is a translucent, banded stone. People use it for backlit walls, vanity tops, reception counters and feature panels because light passes through it. It is softer and more brittle than most marble, so it scratches and cracks more easily.

Many onyx slabs have a resin layer or a mesh backing to hold them together. That changes what we can do, because too much heat or pressure can damage the resin. We inspect each piece and agree a plan before any machine touches it.
