Travertine Polishing Dubai — Void Filling, Honing & Crystallization

Travertine is one of the most common natural stones in UAE homes, with warm cream tones and a natural texture. Travertine polishing starts with filling the stone's natural holes and ends with the right sealer; without both, travertine wears quickly under foot traffic and desert sand.

MarblePro delivers travertine polishing across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain & Fujairah — same crew, same diamond-grade process and 1-month written guarantee in every emirate.

Travertine floors: polished beside dull stone

These photos are from a travertine floor at Marina Plaza in Dubai Marina. They show glossy polished travertine next to dull stone, so you can see the difference on one floor. The video shows another travertine floor before polishing, with worn and dull areas.

Why travertine is treated differently

Travertine forms in layers around mineral springs, which leaves natural holes in the stone. Many tiles are filled at the factory, but that filler can wear away. When it does, dirt and water collect in the holes and the floor starts to look pitted.

So polishing alone will not fix a worn travertine floor. We fill the holes first, and only then hone or polish. We also ask how you want it to look. Some homes suit a soft honed finish, and others want more shine.

— Signs

When travertine needs work

Open holes

Filler has worn out, and dirt now sits in the surface.

Dark, dirty patches

Soil gets into the pores, and mopping only moves it around.

Rough walkways

The floor feels worn underfoot along busy routes.

Damaged outdoor areas

Pool surrounds and terraces suffer from sun, salt and water.

— Our process

How we restore travertine

1. Inspect and agree the finish

We look at the holes and the wear, and help you choose honed or polished.

2. Deep clean

We clear dirt from the pores so the filler can bond.

3. Fill the voids

We use a colour-matched epoxy filler in holes and chips.

4. Hone, polish and seal

We bring the floor to the agreed finish and seal it.

— Questions

Travertine polishing questions

Honed or polished: which is better?

Honed hides wear and feels less slippery. Polished looks brighter but shows marks sooner.

Will the filler match my floor?

We colour-match it to the stone. Small differences are normal, because no two tiles are the same.

Can you work on pool areas?

Yes. We usually suggest a finish with more grip outdoors.
